Board Members Wanted

Wisconsin Milkweed Alliance (WIMA) is seeking new members for its board of directors. WIMA is a  non-profit organization based in Menomonie, WI. Its programs include Monarch House Peer Run Respite, a short-term, overnight support for individuals experiencing crisis or distress related to mental health or substance use challenges. WIMA is a peer-run organization, meaning that staff,  volunteers, and board members all share lived experiences related to mental health, substance use,  trauma, or other life-interrupting challenges. Board membership is a volunteer position.

Qualities we’re looking for in board members:

• Lived experience (mental health, substance use, trauma, other life-interrupting challenges)

• Support WIMA’s vision of “a transformed culture built on mutual respect in which all people have the right to choose their own paths to healing and wholeness,” and core values: self-determination, authenticity, wholeness, unconditional high regard, mutuality, and transformation.

• As part of WIMA’s ongoing commitment to equity and inclusion, we welcome members who are people of color and/or members of historically marginalized communities.

• Board membership is open to any resident of Wisconsin, especially residents of Dunn County and/or the northwestern region of Wisconsin.

• Previous board experience is not a requirement: orientation is provided if you are new to serving on a board.

Time commitment:

Six board meetings per year, for a 2-year term. The board meets every other month. Meetings are held virtually via Zoom.

• Occasional email communication and decision-making in between meetings.

• Other duties as needed/desired. Board members are encouraged but not required to take part in work groups, fundraising, or outreach. Some board positions may include more frequent communication with WIMA’s executive director or financial manager.
